Les releases gratuites arrivent par fournées ces temps-ci, et je ne pouvais pas ne pas m’arrêter sur un ptit gars de 17 ans, Joey Bada$$, qui m’a administré une grosse mandale il y a quelques mois avec son morceau Survival Tactics, sorti de nul part. A l’instar d’Odd Future, Pro.Era est un collectif qui commence à faire parler de lui, grâce à quelques têtes brulées qui claquent des rimes sans complexes sur des beats plus old-school et moins crapoteux que la bande à Tyler. Bref, après m’avoir décroché la mâchoire avec son premier single, Joey Bada$$ déboule cette semaine avec sa mixtape gratuite, qui recèle de petits diamants pour ceux qui aiment le hiphop qui claque, et qui va chercher ses sonorités autre part que dans les erztatz de beats Guetta-style peuplant nos tympans actuellement. Sur des prods et des face-b de MF Doom, Dilla ou Lord Finesse notamment, histoire de citer les plus connus, ou de quelques perles balancées par des potos de son collectif pro.era, le bonhomme n’évite pas les erreurs de jeunesse et quelques titres dispensables, mais balance surtout de vrais bombasses (Survival Tactics, Funky Ho’s, Righteous Minds, Where it’s at, Killuminati, Hardknock…)
Doseone disait en interview qu’une nouvelle scène jeune et bourrée de charisme commençait à perler dans le hiphop américain, et ce Joey Badass en fait clairement parti. Ca n’invente rien, ça ne repousse aucune limite, et ça regarderait presque un peu trop dans le rétroviseur… ? Certes, mais vu qu’à l’écoute de Survival Tactics, tu as envie de sauter contre les murs, de casser ton mobilier puis de sortir dans la rue pour embrasser toutes les passantes, tu te dis que prendre ton pied avec un morceau sans penser à autre chose, c’est déjà plutôt bien.
