Pendant 1 mois, tu restes collé à la même température, que tu te lèves tôt pour aller bosser, que tu te balades un après midi ou que tu sortes d’une boite à 4 heures du matin. C’est gluant.
Bon, évidemment en Aout, des disques sortent. Je ne savais pas trop quoi chroniquer, et j’étais vraiment parti sur le Teengirl Fantasy, au tracklisting vraiment alléchant (des feats de Panda Bear ou Romanthony) et surtout une promesse de confirmer ce que l’on avait entendu dans le bien sympa premier album. J’achète le disque, malgré sa pochette repoussante (on commence à avoir l’habitude), et je le lance avec la bave aux lèvres : quelle déception. Enfin non, ce n’est pas vraiment mauvais, c’est surtout que ça n’a aucun intérêt. Pas de souffle épique, pas de grande fresque spatiale comme l’on pouvait en trouver dans le premier LP… tout reste plat, sans relief, sans morceau qui te frise la colonne. Tout le potentiel entrevu dans certains morceaux sublimes (Cheaters, Forever the Feeling…) d’il y a 2 ans a disparu. Et c’est triste.
Je voulais aussi chroniquer le nouvel EP de World’s End Girlfriend, mais je n’ai pas pu le chopper, édition ultra limitée. Affaire à suivre. L’Ep de Bambounou ne m’a pas non plus passionné. Il me restait alors une nouvelle salve de Jacques Greene, ma tête favorite de ce mouvement Uk / 2step / House qui n’en fini plus de sévir. 2eme Ep cette année. Et franchement, cette nouvelle monture écrase celui sorti en Janvier.
Ca commence comme un Burial, avec un rythme 2step lourd et des voix éthérées. Donc bon, déjà, tu sais que tu vas aimer ce Ready, que ça va être drôlement bien. Mais la “Jacques Greene touch” arrive vite, et démontre bien heureusement que le canadien est loin de n’être qu’un copycat du mystérieux londonien. Des synthés s’immiscent dans la structure, le tout prend des apparats plus techno, et c’est parti pour la plongée club de folie, avec fumée de clopes en mode pure de pois, et mannequins drogué(e)s affalé(e)s sur les sofas. Le morceau n’oublie jamais de respirer, avec des breaks qui font ressurgir les voix d’anges slow-motionnées, mais le tout tabasse grave comme toute bonne track qui se respecte après 4heures du matin. Bombe imparable. Qui a justement ce petit coté “tube drogué” qui manquait au dernier Ep de Mr Greene.
Prism débute façon plus futuriste, on pourrait caser cette introduction dans un Wipeout 2097 sans problème (c’est un immense compliment pour moi). La mélodie se fait plus enjouée, plus entrainante, mais c’est les voix pitchées, arrivant en nombre, qui donnent le top départ, et envoient le morceau sur les rails d’une techno hypnotique et libidineuse. Milieu de track, une litanie cristalline se fait entendre, et te téléporte de la cave cradingue au toit d’un building écrasé par le soleil. Plus aérienne, plus mélodique, moins encrassé, Prism envoie vite dans les nuages, du long de ses 7 minutes 30.
Mais mais mais… Dakou clôt cet Ep. Et Dakou, n’est disponible que sur l’édition digitale de ce Ready EP. Alors je vais le dire haut et fort, et c’est rare : laissez tomber le vinyle, et sautez sur la version itunes. Parce que ce dernier morceau est immense. Un vrai diamant. Tout est là pour faire de Dakou un grand titre. Des voix pitchées parfaitement placées. Un rythme techno caverneux. Une mélodie sublime. Dans les 30 premières secondes, quand le clavier s’enroule seul, soutenu par ce trait mélancolique, avant que le tout parte en club, tu sens littéralement ta colonne se raidir. Le morceau n’arrête pas d’évoluer, de se déplier, de chialer sa tristesse toujours matinée d’une facette dancefloor absolue. C’est le grand écart parfait entre spleen et décadence, c’est pile ce que sait faire de mieux Jacques Greene, c’est ce que l’on avait perçu une poignées de fois dans ses anciennes productions (Good Morning, Another Girl, Lotus Flower remix…) et ce que l’on attend absolument de lui dès qu’il sort un truc. Tu arrives à la moitié de ce bonheur, et tu te dis que c’est déjà bien mortel. Jacques Greene, peu avare en grosses mandales, réserve pourtant une sacrée surprise. Tout à coup, sans prévenir, une grosse ligne Acid déboule dans le morceau, histoire de t’arracher littéralement la gueule. Le tout part dans un trip camé du plus bel effet, superbement maitrisé, te collant dans le même mouvement des larmes dans les yeux et des tressautements dans les hanches. Quand le titre meurt, après 7minutes pareilles, tu te dis sans hésiter que ce Dakou pourrait bien être le plus beau titre de Jacques Greene.
Mais tu te dis aussi qu’après deux ans et 7 Ep de grande classe, il serait vraiment temps que Jacques Greene pense à accoucher enfin d’un LP. Tant ce dernier pourrait bruler toute concurrence en un claquement de doigts.
