4 mois… Juste 4 mois après le chef d’oeuvre “Cavalcade of Glee and Dadaist Happy Hardcore Poms Poms”, Venetian Snares (Aaron funk de son vrai nom) réitère et nous sort une nouvelle galette…
Son rythme de sortie est juste hallucinant… Plus d’une quinzaine de disques depuis 2000… (Sans compter certaines collaborations sous d’autres obscures pseudos…)
Encore une pochette de dingue. Apres avoir charcuté les vaches avec des implants mécaniques, Venetian Snares s’attaque aux humains. A l’intérieur, Tous les instruments de “torture” sont exposés, et un cerveau cybernisé ferait pâlir tout amateur d’expériences à la “Gunnm”.
Frictional Nevada, premier titre, la bave aux lèvres.
Tout commence très calmement… d’une beauté presque rassurante… une sorte de sitar donne le ton à un violon sautillant et une flûte discrète. Une nappe de synthé enveloppe le tout… des Choeurs s’entendent au loin pour dominer peu à peu le tout…
Accélération. Accélération. Accélération. Explosion.
Les sons martyrisent cette base posée des les prémices du morceau.
Orgasme musical des les 2 premières minutes du Cd. C’est violent. C’est sublime. La mélodie angélique est remplacée par un clavier ultra crasseux… puis tout se mélange, le morceau n’obéit plus à aucune structure. Marasme sonore. Il n’y plus de balise, plus de contrôle… Un contraste saisissant avec l’aube du morceau.
Fin, silence. On a déjà perdu l’équilibre. Le morceau se suffit à lui même, mais 5 autres se pressent déjà derrière lui pour chambouler le peu de conscience qui nous reste…
Le morceau suivant, Beverly’s Potatoe Orchestra ne s’embarrassera pas d’intro planante. On rentre directement dans le vif du sujet. Une voix étouffé et malsaine semble gueuler son désespoir. Un synthé décharné entre dans la danse, distillant une mélodie sur le fil, chamboulé par ses beats assassins. Ces sons dont je suis amoureux. Brefs, précis, rapides. Puis tout se fait plus aérien, la beauté prend le dessus. 3 minutes, c’est court. On voudrait que cela continue, mais le morceau se dérobe pour laisser place à Shoot myself :
Son d’orgue qui n’est pas sans rappeler le titre “Swindon” du précédent album. Les amoureux de synthés graves seront aux anges. Les cymbales entre en catimini. Le morceau est plus calme que ses deux grands frères. Les sons sont toujours précis et incisifs, mais on laisse de coté les basses “lourdes”. Un violon en spirale se fait quelques fois entendre. C’est classe. Ce titre prend le contre pied du son Massif en nous cajolant avec une musique aérienne déglinguée…
On ne lacère plus notre coeur avec un couteau, (car c’est bien le coeur que Venetian vise, c’est bien le coeur qui est bouleversé par cette avalanche de sons) on le pique avec de fines aiguilles…
Duffy abrite le chef d’oeuvre de l’album.
Un début aride, noir. Avalanche de son. Mais ce qui fait tout, qui élève le morceau comme jamais, c’est cette mélopée touchée par la grâce. Aphex Twin est relégué au rang de suiveur avec un morceau pareil. Car c’est bien sur le terrain d’Aphex Twin que Venetian Snares pose ses billes. Un terrain qui n’avait jamais été remis en cause précédemment. On n’ose pas toucher à un dieu. Mais Aaron funk s’en fou. Il bouscule l’ordre établi. Et de la plus belle des manières. Duffy est un morceau Hallucinant. Oscillant constamment entre beauté mélancolique et violence surhumaine, entre rage incontrôlée et féerie électronique. 6 Minutes pour nous mettre à genoux. L’accalmie de la conclusion du morceau nous pousserait presque à la béatitude la plus complète.
Comment réussir à maintenir la barre après un tour de force pareil? Cabbage n’atteindra pas l’élévation de son précédent. Mais il est loin de faillir à la mission imposée par Venetian Snares sur cet Album. Claviers ultra-presents, schéma drill inchangé, il nous comble sans nous étonner. Mais c’est déjà énorme.
Déjà le final. Titre éponyme, Hospitality ne ferra aucune concession. Notre main ne serra pas lâchée avant la dernière seconde de ce disque. Le morceau se fait un peu plus Hardcore et agressif que ses compères. Mais la ligne directrice mélodique imposée par Aaron Funk nous rassure, nous pousse à tenir, nous empêche de sombrer dans la folie. L’épilogue est proche du Chaos. Couronnement d’un album court mais dense comme jamais.
Ce Cd est indispensable pour tous. Pour tout ceux qui aiment les musiques dures, pures et déviantes. Qu’ils viennent de l’Electronique, du Hardcore, du Rock, du Métal, du Hip-Hop expérimental… (Même si je ne répéterai jamais assez qu’il faut d’abord se plonger dans « Rossz Csillag… », surtout pour les inconditionnels du Métal, qui trouveront l’album pour se plonger dans l’électronique maladive… )
Encore une fois, il faut la force de pouvoir s’y plonger. Les 6 titres font bien malingres au premier abord. Et pourtant le disque est plus dense, plus travaillé, plus cadré, plus réussi que le précédent. Il nous sert 6 bombes, en délaissant tout ce qui pourrait tirer la qualité de l’ensemble vers le bas. Pas un des titres proposés ne nous fait douter, nous donne envie de presser la touche “avance rapide”.
Venetian Snares est devenu important.
On le pensait déjà depuis quelque temps, mais on n’osait pas le dire. Qui serait crédible en annonçant qu’un nouveau démiurge de la musique électronique est arrivé??? Que ce dernier pousse Aphex Twin, loin, très loin de son piédestal? Qu’il donne l’impression que Squarepusher n’est qu’un gamin jouant dans son parc musical?
Mais en 2ans (!!!) avec “Huge Chrome Cylinder Box Unfolding”, “Rossz Csillag alatt Szuletett”, “Winnipeg is a frozen shithole”, “Meathole”, “Cavalcade of Glee and Dadaist Happy Hardcore Poms Poms” et donc “Hospitality” personne ne peut plus nier la supériorité de ce fou canadien. Son emprise sur le futur de cette musique de dégénérés. (Et je laisse volontairement de coté d’autres anciens chefs d’oeuvres, la liste serait bien trop longue)

Votre rythme de sortie inhumain de CD me convient parfaitement. Ne faiblissez pas, la dépendance est trop forte, la drogue irremplaçable, le substitut inexistant.
